Pippin Drysdale

Pippin Drysdale

I visited Pippin Drysdale in Perth during my WA workshop tour in 2007. I never met Pip before but she kindly let me visit her studio, “come for drinks and nibbles” she said. When i arrive, there was actually bubbles and nibbles await for me!

Pip work at home. Her studio is at the back of her house. It has two components, one is for throwing, drying and firing. Another is for glazing. When i first saw her work I imagine that her studio will equip with modern technology and very fashionable sort of look. Mainly because of her work is so beautifully made and well finish which involve a lot of practice and skill. Not to mention her unique technique on glazing. I was so surprise to find out that her studio is very simple and basic. This give me even more respect to her work and her skill. To achieve something so extraordinary from so basic set up is an amazing skill. I look at her glaze buckets and test pieces, i now know the secret of her success….hard working!
